When it comes to queries about his family, Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, has always been circumspect. Only a few details about President Putin's family life have been officially confirmed. The newest set of US sanctions targeted Putin's two daughters, Maria Vorontsova, 36, and Katerina Tikhonova, 35. The two are President Putin's and his ex-wife Lyudmila's daughters. In 1983, she was a flight attendant and he was a KGB officer when they married. Their marriage lasted 30 years, spanning Putin's meteoric ascension to the top of Russian politics. They split in 2013 due to a hectic schedule in their respective activities.
Maria Vorontsova, their eldest child, was born in 1985. She received her bachelor's degree in biology from St. Petersburg University and her medical degree from Moscow State University. She is now a scholar with a focus on the endocrine system. Mrs. Vorontsova is married to Jorrit Joost Faassen, a Dutch businessman.
