Mumbai traffic cops say pay more or bring in odd-even rule

The Maharashtra government has a choice either to introduce anti-pollution allowance and increase wages of the Traffic police in Mumbai or implement the odd-even rule for cars to curb pollution. The Mumbai police are quoting the Telangana example wherein the salaries of the traffic police in the State have been increased by 30%. The traffic police in Mumbai say they have to stand on the roads for long hours every day, exposed as they are to pollution of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide. As a result, they are suffering from ill-health. The traffic police are suffering from breathing and hearing problems as well as working under pressure. They, therefore, deserve anti-pollution allowances and 30% increase in wages.
