HYDRAA Secures 38 Acres of Land Reserved for Journalists in Hyderabad
Authorities have taken steps to prevent encroachment on valuable government land allocated to journalists in Pet Basheerabad, Quthbullapur Mandal, Medchal–Malkajgiri district. On Wednesday, the HYDRAA constructed fencing around 38 acres located in Survey Number 25/2 to safeguard the property. This action followed complaints that illegal constructions and encroachments were increasing in the area.

The state government had allotted this 38-acre land in 2008 to the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists’ Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society. Since then, the land has remained under government possession within the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). However, the process of distributing house plots to journalists was halted after some individuals challenged the allocation in court. While the case remains under judicial consideration, representatives of the journalists’ society, along with revenue and HMDA officials, lodged complaints with HYDRAA alleging that illegal structures were being built on the vacant land.

Responding to these complaints, HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath directed a joint inspection by teams from the Revenue, Municipal, and HMDA departments. The inspection confirmed the presence of encroachments. Consequently, officials erected fencing around the remaining open land, excluding the houses that had already been built and occupied.

Some local residents reportedly attempted to obstruct the officials’ actions. HYDRAA authorities clarified that their objective was solely to protect government property. They stated that a final decision on the land allocations would be made only after the court delivers its verdict. Meanwhile, preventive measures have been taken to ensure that no new encroachments occur.

Commissioner A. V. Ranganath further stated that a meeting would soon be held with residents who have already constructed houses to review their ownership documents. Officials from the Revenue, HMDA, and Municipal departments will also participate in this meeting, he added.
