Nara Lokesh Hails Google’s Entry as a Landmark for Andhra Pradesh’s Tech Future
A major milestone has been achieved in the technology sector of Andhra Pradesh, as global tech giant Google announced plans to establish a large-scale data center in Visakhapatnam. Minister Nara Lokesh described the development as a historic day for Andhra Pradesh in the world of technology, emphasizing its significance not only for the state’s future but also for the country’s digital advancement.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that Google is set to invest an estimated USD 15 billion in this ambitious project.
Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh stated, “Data centers are the new refineries of the modern world. Under the visionary leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, many more such projects will come to Andhra Pradesh.” He expressed confidence that Google’s arrival would secure the state’s place on the global technology map and mark the beginning of a new chapter in digital innovation and artificial intelligence (AI). He further urged Google to extend greater support to state initiatives such as Real-Time Governance.
Union Minister for IT and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Google’s decision would bring transformative changes to people’s lives across the country. “States like Andhra Pradesh, which prioritize technology, play a crucial role in the nation’s progress. Such developments are made possible through the central government’s Data Center Policy,” he explained.
The minister added that the Visakhapatnam data center will be connected to Southeast Asian and Australian nations through an undersea cable system. He requested Google to also assist in improving connectivity to India’s northeastern states via Myanmar.
Addressing concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, Ashwini Vaishnaw assured that enhanced skill development would create new opportunities for technology professionals.
