Harish Kumar Gupta Appointed as Full-Time Director General of Police for Andhra Pradesh
Harish Kumar Gupta has been officially appointed as the full-time Director General of Police (DGP) for the state of Andhra Pradesh. Until now, he had been serving in the role in an acting capacity. The government has now issued formal orders confirming his appointment, granting him a full two-year term in the position.
Harish Kumar Gupta is a 1992-batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS). Originally from Jammu and Kashmir, he began his professional career in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Khammam. He subsequently served as ASP in Medak and Peddapalli districts as well.
Throughout his career, Harish Kumar Gupta has held several key positions. He served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Krishna and Nalgonda districts, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the South Zone of Hyderabad. He also held the roles of Inspector General of Police (IG) for the Guntur Range, Additional DGP for Law and Order, and Additional DGP for Provisions and Logistics.
In addition, he has served as the Chairman of the Police Recruitment Board and as Director General of the Railway Police. Since May 2022, he has been functioning as the Principal Secretary for the Home Department.
Following the retirement of the then-DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on January 31 of this year, Harish Kumar Gupta was appointed by the government as the interim DGP. In consideration of his service, the government has now made his appointment permanent with an official announcement.
