India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement: Global Leaders React
India and Pakistan have officially agreed to a ceasefire, ending several days of escalating attacks and retaliatory strikes along the Line of Control. The decision, described as crucial, was formally announced by both governments and has drawn praise from leaders across the world who expressed optimism that it will pave the way for peaceful dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
According to reports, the United States played a pivotal role in facilitating the agreement. President Donald Trump commented on the development, stating, “I am pleased to announce that, following extensive overnight discussions mediated by the United States, India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and full ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries for showing insight and great wisdom. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.”
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio also welcomed the development, saying, “It is encouraging to see the governments of India and Pakistan agreeing to an immediate ceasefire and to begin broad discussions on a neutral platform.”
Acting Prime Minister of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus praised the decision by the Indian and Pakistani leadership. “I sincerely commend Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for agreeing to the immediate ceasefire and for being open to dialogue. Bangladesh continues to support both our neighbouring countries in resolving disputes through diplomatic means,” he said.
European Union Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas described the ceasefire as “an important step towards de-escalation.” She added, “Every effort should be made to uphold this commitment. The EU remains dedicated to peace, stability, and the fight against terrorism in the region.”
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy also welcomed the agreement. “Today’s ceasefire between India and Pakistan is a very welcome move. I urge both sides to continue on this path. De-escalation is beneficial to all,” he stated.
Islamic spiritual leader Prince Rahim al-Husseini expressed joy over the development, stating, “It is heartening to see an agreement on a ceasefire. I pray that both countries resolve the issues that have existed since 1947 through dialogue and peaceful means.”
