Ambati reacts to Puvvada’s demand of reducing height of Polavaram

Amaravati, July 19: Responding to Telangana Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar’s demand of lowering the height of Polavaram Project due to flood risk to Bhadrachalam, Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu on Tuesday said that the Government of India had accorded permission based on the recommendation of the Central Water Commission (CWC) to store water up to 45.72 meters in Polavaram.

Accordingly, the Centre merged seven mandals of Telangana in AP which will submerge due to backwater, he stated and added that the AP government has been implementing Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) package for displaced people.

The minister expressed surprise over racking up issue after the matter is settled with the creation of two Telugu states. He advised the Telangana government to approach the Centre if they have any grievance with regard to Polavaram. “It is not correct to raise the issue whenever villages in Telangana are affected with floodwater. Even, villages on AP side also submerged,” he mentioned.
