Delhi Launches DEVI Electric Bus Service to Boost Last-Mile Connectivity

In an initiative aimed at improving public transportation in the national capital, the Government of Delhi is set to launch a new service called the Mohalla Electric Bus Service. Officially named Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges (DEVI), this new electric bus network will commence operations on April 22, 2025, according to reports.

The core objective of this scheme is to enhance last-mile connectivity from metro stations to residential neighborhoods. In its initial phase, 255 compact electric buses, each 9 meters in length, will be deployed. These buses have been specially designed to navigate narrow lanes and congested areas with ease. Each vehicle will offer 23 seats and is capable of traveling over 200 kilometers on a single charge.

Fare prices will range between ₹10 and ₹25, similar to the current air-conditioned bus services. For women, six seats in each bus will be reserved. Additionally, under the Delhi government's Pink Pass scheme, women will be allowed to travel free of charge on these buses.

The first operational route, designated MS-1, will run from Akshardham Metro Station to Mayur Vihar Phase-3, passing through Trilokpuri and Kalyanpuri. The government plans to introduce more than 2,000 such electric buses by the end of 2025.

This initiative aims to strengthen an environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation system while contributing to the reduction of urban pollution levels.
