Amazon Launches Coding Training in AP Government Schools

E-commerce giant Amazon has successfully concluded a pilot project in Andhra Pradesh aimed at equipping government school students with computer skills. The initiative, under the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) program, provided training in coding and artificial intelligence to students and teachers from government schools in three districts.

In the previous year, Amazon conducted similar training programs across eight states in India. In Andhra Pradesh, the pilot was implemented in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts. To execute this initiative, Amazon collaborated with Samagra Shiksha, Leadership for Equity, and the voluntary organization Quest Alliance.

Through both online and offline modes, the program trained over 248 teachers and 7,381 students in coding and artificial intelligence courses. Students and teachers who demonstrated exceptional performance during the training were recognized and invited to participate in a hackathon held in Visakhapatnam. Winners were awarded laptops, tablets, and televisions as incentives.

Madhavilatha, the AFE State Coordinator, stated that plans are being developed to scale the initiative over the next three years, with the aim of training 5,000 teachers and 50,000 students across the state in AI and coding skills.
