Gorantla Madhav Appears Before Police, Claims Video is His but Not the Voice

Former MP and YSRCP leader Gorantla Madhav appeared before the Vijayawada police on Thursday in connection with a case filed against him for allegedly revealing the name of a minor rape survivor in the media. The case was registered following a complaint by Vasireddy Padma, former chairperson of the Women’s Commission.

Madhav was served a notice summoning him for questioning, and he arrived at the police station accompanied by two lawyers. However, the police allowed only one lawyer to enter, leading to a brief argument between his legal team and the officers. Eventually, Madhav proceeded inside with just one lawyer.

The inquiry was conducted by senior officer Gunaram. Madhav entered the premises at 12:45 PM and exited at 1:30 PM. Speaking to the media afterward, he stated that the authorities had posed ten questions to him, all of which he had answered. He claimed he did not recall mentioning the survivor’s name.

Madhav revealed that the police had shown him a video, which he confirmed as his own. However, he insisted that the voice heard in the video was not his. He also mentioned that the police had informed him that he might be summoned again for further questioning and that he had received another notice.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged suggesting that investigating officer Gunaram and Gorantla Madhav were batchmates, having been selected as sub-inspectors in 1996. Both underwent training together before taking up their respective roles. Madhav later received a promotion to Circle Inspector (CI) before resigning from the police force to join the YSR Congress Party, eventually winning as an MP.
