Anurag Kashyap Reveals Plans to Exit Bollywood, Expresses Discontent
Renowned filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap has once again strongly criticized the Hindi film industry, stating that Bollywood has become toxic, prompting him to step away from it. He alleged that the industry prioritizes box office numbers over creativity, lamenting that the artistic aspect of filmmaking is being neglected.
Kashyap expressed disappointment over what he described as an unrealistic obsession with massive box office earnings. "Everyone wants to make films that collect ₹500 crore or ₹800 crore," he said, adding that the pursuit of such figures has led to the death of creativity in Bollywood.
The director further stated that he is deeply dissatisfied with the state of the industry he once belonged to. According to him, Bollywood has become a space where profits dictate decisions, leaving no room for creative experimentation. "Producers are only concerned about their profit margins. They hesitate to invest in a film if there's even a slight risk of loss," Kashyap alleged.
He criticized the industry's approach of planning film sales even before production begins, arguing that this mindset stifles the motivation to create meaningful cinema. As a result, he said he had decided to leave Bollywood altogether. Kashyap also revealed that he plans to move out of Mumbai next year.
On the professional front, Kashyap has played a crucial role in an upcoming Telugu-Hindi bilingual film starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. The release date of the film is yet to be announced. Meanwhile, there are speculations that Kashyap may relocate to Bengaluru in the near future.
