RGV Files Quash Petition in High Court Seeking Dismissal of CID Case

Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking the dismissal of a case registered against him by the Crime Investigation Department (CID). In his quash petition, Varma contended that the allegations against him were baseless and politically motivated.

He stated that his film Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu was released in 2019 after obtaining a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He questioned the rationale behind registering a case against him in 2024, years after the film's release. Varma argued that the sections imposed by the CID in the case were not applicable and urged the court to grant an interim order preventing further action based on the complaint.

The case traces back to 2019 when Ram Gopal Varma directed and released the film Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu, which was officially titled Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu. However, the film was uploaded on YouTube under its original title. This led to a complaint filed by Bandaru Vamsi Krishna from Atmakur, near Mangalagiri, with the CID police.

The complainant alleged that the film contained objectionable scenes that were not removed, hurting public sentiments. As a result, a case was registered at the CID police station in Mangalagiri on November 29, 2023. Following this, CID officials issued notices to Ram Gopal Varma.
