I Appeal Even to Those in Telangana": Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu addressed a victory celebration at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters in Mangalagiri this evening, following the success of the alliance candidates in the Graduate MLC elections. During his speech, he discussed the Banakacharla project and reiterated his commitment to utilizing the waters of the Godavari River efficiently.

"Some people are raising new concerns. I appeal to the entire Telugu community, including those in Telangana. I have pledged to bring Godavari waters to Banakacharla. My plan is to divert water from the Polavaram project to Banakacharla. These are waters that would otherwise be wasted by flowing into the sea. However, one party is politicizing this matter, and another party is joining in, fearing that they will fall behind if they do not do the same. This is not right," Chandrababu Naidu stated.

He emphasized that the Telugu Desam Party was established for the welfare of Telugu people and recalled its founding by Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). "Whether it was then or now, we continue to work for the Telugu people. Even on the day of bifurcation, I maintained that both regions—Andhra Pradesh and Telangana—are like two eyes. I have always advocated for justice for both," he added.

Referring to opposition to his water diversion plan, Chandrababu Naidu questioned, "When we attempt to redirect waters that would otherwise be lost to the sea, why are people questioning our right to do so? Take, for instance, the Kaleshwaram project. I never opposed it. In fact, I welcomed it. You are free to build projects on the Godavari and utilize its waters. The Godavari River is the true safeguard of the Telugu people."

He argued that utilizing surplus water from the river should not be considered a wrongdoing. "If 1,000 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water is flowing into the sea, how is it wrong to make use of it? My vision extends beyond this. I also support linking the Ganga and Kaveri rivers. Even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had set up a task force for this purpose. Political leaders must adopt a positive mindset. Today, Narendra Modi is leading the nation at the right time, and as he steers India forward, I will guide the Telugu people toward greater progress," Chandrababu Naidu asserted.
