BJP-Backed Malka Komuraiah and PRTU’s Sripal Reddy Win Telangana Teachers' MLC Elections
In the recently held Teachers' MLC elections in Telangana, candidates backed by the Progressive Recognized Teachers’ Union (PRTU) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious. Sripal Reddy, the PRTU-backed candidate, won from the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency, while Malka Komuraiah, supported by the BJP, secured victory in the Karimnagar-Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad constituency.
Sripal Reddy won through the counting of second-preference votes. Since no candidate secured the required majority in the first-preference vote count, the election proceeded to the elimination process. Ultimately, Sripal Reddy triumphed over the sitting MLC, Narsi Reddy, with second-preference votes.
Malka Komuraiah, backed by the BJP, secured 12,959 first-preference votes, surpassing PRTU candidate Vanga Mahender Reddy. Election officials had set the winning threshold at 12,081 votes, and Malka Komuraiah crossed this mark comfortably with his first-preference votes.
