Pakistan Eliminated from Champions Trophy, Registers Multiple Unwanted Records
Pakistan, which was hosting an ICC event for the first time in nearly three decades through the Champions Trophy, faced an unexpected setback. The team lost both of its group-stage matches and was eliminated from the tournament without reaching the semi-finals.

Pakistan’s hopes of advancing were kept alive until the final group-stage match, where Bangladesh needed to defeat New Zealand. However, New Zealand secured a victory over Bangladesh, ensuring that India and New Zealand progressed to the semi-finals from Group A, while Pakistan and Bangladesh were eliminated.

Following Pakistan’s early exit, fans expressed their frustration, criticizing the team's poor performance. In the process, Pakistan registered several unwanted records.

This is the first time in 16 years that a host nation has been eliminated from the Champions Trophy at the group stage. The last instance was in the 2009 edition when South Africa, the host nation, lost two out of three matches and was eliminated at the bottom of the points table.

Pakistan had won the 2017 Champions Trophy by defeating India in the final, making it the defending champion this time. However, the team failed to progress beyond the group stage, making it one of the few defending champions in history to exit at this early stage.

Previously, in the 2004 Champions Trophy, India and Sri Lanka—who were joint winners of the 2002 edition—were also eliminated at the group stage. Similarly, Australia, after winning the 2009 Champions Trophy, failed to win a single match in the 2013 edition and was eliminated in the group stage.
