Amazon Hyderabad Office Involved in ₹102 Crore Fraud

Employees of the prominent e-commerce company Amazon have allegedly defrauded the organization by creating fake delivery records, embezzling ₹102.88 crore. The scheme involved falsifying delivery attempts and claiming transportation costs for undelivered packages. According to Amazon representative G.S. Arjun Kumar, the fraud centered around the Hyderabad office and involved current and former employees collaborating with delivery agents in the United States. The company has filed a complaint with the Cyber Security Bureau, and authorities have registered a case against 22 individuals, initiating an investigation.

Amazon's Relay Operations Center in Hyderabad oversees deliveries worldwide. Packages are monitored through GPS from the moment they leave the warehouse until they reach the customer. Delivery operations are contracted out to third-party vendors, with Amazon reimbursing transportation costs based on the distance traveled, even if the customer is unavailable at the specified address during delivery.

Former employees exploited this system by conspiring with current staff and U.S.-based personnel to register fake trips, claiming reimbursement for transportation costs on packages falsely marked as undeliverable. As a result, they siphoned off ₹102.88 crore from the company.

The Cyber Security Bureau has taken cognizance of the case and is investigating the involvement of all individuals linked to the scam.
