UK doctors to examine conjoined twins Veena, Vani

Hyderabad, Feb 7: Doctors from the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London are scheduled to examine conjoined twins Veena and Vani Saturday, according to Niloufeur Hospital doctors here. In 2009, the twins were examined, but due to certain complications, father of the twins is believed to have refused to allow the surgery to separate the conjoined twins. The twins had been suffering since their birth 11 years ago. Dr David Dunaway and Dr Owase Jeelani from UK are reported to have successfully performed a similar surgery that is said to have encouraged Niloufeur Hospital doctors to approach them. After Saturday's examination, if the doctors give a green signal, then twins will have to undergo at least 10-15 surgeries in a phased manner spread over 280 days in the UK, according to Niloufeur Hospital doctors. The Superintendent of Niloufeur Hospital, Dr Devraj, is reported to have said, “The matter will be also discussed with Telangana Health Minister before a decision is taken.”
