Sensex goes past 29,000, Nifty touches 8,774

Mumbai, Jan 22: The BSE Sensex closed above the 29,000-mark on Thursday and the Nifty peaked at 8,774.15 following sustained buying by funds in auto, metal, healthcare and capital goods sector stocks. For the sixth continuous day, the BSE Sensex crossed the 29,000-level and hit a high of 29,060.41. At close, the 30-share index settled at 29,006.02, which is up by 117.16 points over the previous close. After 50 trading sessions between November 12 and January 22 this year the index reached the 29,000-level. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty zoomed to hit a record-high of 8,774.15. However, due to profit-booking Nifty ended at 8,761.40, which is up 31.90 points.
