Brahma to replace Sampath as new CEC

New Delhi, Jan 15: Following convention, the government of India has sent its proposal naming Election Commissioner HS Brahma for the post of Chief Election Commissioner to the President of India. Once approved, Brahma will succeed VS Sampath as the next Chief Election Commissioner of India. It is a convention to propose the name of the senior-most Election Commissioner as the Chief Election Commissioner. Brahma, who hails from Assam, is a retired IAS officer belonging to the 1975 batch of the AP cadre.
