Survey of India files complaint against Internet giant Google Inc

Hyderabad, Dec 16: Survey of India is reported to have filed a complaint in a local police station in Dehradun against Internet giant Google Inc for a wrong depiction of India’s map on its search engine. According to an official press release from the Survey of India: “It is observed that M/s Google Map is wrongly depicting external boundaries of India on maps hosted by them on different domains, namely, http://www.google.cn/maps/@25.7377892,88.726647,4z and https://www.google.com/maps/@25.1367452,80.1073483,4z , which are not equivalent to Government of India authentication.” The Survey of India went on to say that ‘The correct official boundaries of India has been shown at http://www.surveyofindia.gov.in/files/Correct_India_Map_1.pdf.’ The press release said the complaint was filed on December 12 based on the directions of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST), Government of India. Police said, “The DoST had directed the Survey of India to file a complaint against Google for the alleged wrong depiction of India’s international boundaries.” Police also said that the "complaint has been referred to the Cyber Cell of the Dehradun police. Further action would be taken after the Cyber Cell’s report on the issue.”
