TS Speaker vows to bring Chenchus to Hyderabad
Hyderabad, May.7: The State government was committed to bring qualitative changes in the lives of nomadic Chenchu tribe found in Warangal District, said Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary while speaking at the 100 years celebrations of Lions Clubs International on Saturday night.

            Madhusudhana Chary was the chief guest at the celebrations as well as Santhosham, the first Annual Convention of Newly Formed Lions Multi District—MD 320 held at  Classic Garden, Secunderabad on Saturday night.

Addressing the gathering of Lion Members from Telangana and Karnataka States, Madhusudhana Chary said he found Chenchu tribe families from Chennapur village in Regonda mandal and Jadalapeta (Bhavusinghpally) in Chityala mandal in Warangal.  They are living in abject poverty and could not afford to have decent clothes. Still today, they hunt rats in the fields for their survival.  They have not even visited Warangal in their life time, the Speaker said.

He also announced that he planned to bring Chenchus to Hyderabad to make sure that they watch Assembly proceedings from his gallery. He urged Lions to take up charity and service activities to bring qualitative changes in the lives of nomadic Chenchu tribe. Some Lion members came forward and made an announcement of Rs 10 lakh donation.

            Lion Vijay Kumar Raju, International Director, Lions Clubs International, delivered the key-note address.  Lion B. Narsimha Reddy, Council Chairman, MD-320; Lion Sunil Kumar R, Past International Director and Lion K. Govindaraj, Area GLT Leader, LCI were also present.

            Lions Clubs across MD 320, pledged to take on major activity to commemorate the 100 years of Lionism. Some key areas of activity include establishment of permanent projects in the areas of Vision Care; Education; Diabetes; Children’s Health Parks and other legacy projects that will connect a more vibrant and active Lionism with the communities. They also announced that they would collaborate with GHMC and take up the activity of establishing Children’s Parks and other activities taken up in this Multiple District during its 100 years celebrations.
