Indonesia quake: No tsunami threat to Indian coast

Hyderabad, Nov 15: Indian Early Tsunami Warning Centre (IETWC) here said there is no tsunami threat to India or the Indian Ocean even though 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia on Saturday morning. Within minutes of the earthquake occuring at 8.01 hrs under Molucca Sea near Halmahera in Indonesia, the IETWC issued a bulletin to the Ministry of Home affairs and various disaster management agencies in the country stating there is no threat to the Indian coast or Indian Ocean. The tsunami warning centre also sent out similar bulletins to 25 Indian Ocean rim countries. K. Srinivas Kumar, In-Charge of the Centre, said minor tsunamis were triggered locally in the aftermath of the earthquake in Indonesia.
