Revanth Reddy’s poser to CM on 12% quota to Muslims, STs, demands clarification
Hyderabad, April.12 : Telangana TDP working president and floor leader in the Assembly A Revanth Reddy today sought clarification from the Chief Minister on the proposed reservation to Muslims and Girijans.
In a letter to KCR, Revanth Reddy asked the former not to wash away hands just by introducing a reservation bill in the Assembly and forward it to the Centre. He said reservation ratio provided in Tamil Nadu State was on the basis of 2001census and reservation logic is totally different from the logic of the TRS government.
Quoting figures, the TTDP leader said the reservations being provided in Tamil Nadu was based on the population of 2001. On that basis, BCs are getting 30 per cent reservation as they are 46.14% in population, 20% to MBCs as against their population of 20.87%, 10% reservation to SCs as against 19% population, one per cent to STs on their population of 1.04 per cent. There was a total 50% reservation in Tamil Nadu. Besides, some per cent of reservation was being provided to Muslims in that State, Revanth said.
In Telangana State, the percentage of the population of BCs and MBCs is 52 per cent. But altogether they are getting only 25 per cent reservation. If the TRS government wanted to follow reservation policy of Tamil Nadu, reservation to BCs in Telangana has to be increased, the TDP leader contended.
Alleging that KCR, without any study on the population of Muslims and girijans and made promises of reservation, Revanth Reddy said the TDP was not against reservation to Muslims. But as per the 2011 census, the population of Muslims in the State was 12.68%. So, how the TRS government could give 12% reservation to this community, he asked and said the population of girijans in the State is 9.08 per cent. In that case, how can the government provide 12% reservation to them? He demanded that the Chief Minister clarify all these doubts.
