Tension In City As Police Foil TJAC Unemployment Rally

Hyderabad, Feb.22: Tension prevailed at various places in the city as students and youth tried to take out a rally in response to the call given by TJAC Chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram demanding jobs for the unemployed as was promised by the ruling TRS Government.

While the police foiled the attempts of the students and youth at many places, hundreds of protesters including Prof. Kodandaram and other TJAC leaders were taken into preventive custody.

The TJAC in a determined bid to organize its proposed “Unemployed Youth Rally” by defying the ban orders imposed in the city, made vain attempts to go ahead with its proposed rally and dharma from Sundarayya Vignana Kendra to Indra Park. However, the police swung into action the moment the protesters tried to gather and go in a rally at various places and whisked them away in police vans.
As a precautionary measure, the police also swooped down on the residence of Prof. Kodandaram at Tarnaka in Secunderabad and arrested him along with other leaders.  This triggered off tensions in many places including in the OU Campus, Nizam College, PG College in Secunderabad etc. The students,   after boycotting classes, tried to go out in a rally but were prevented by the police. This led to a clash between the students and police at some places. The agitators also indulged in stone pelting resulting in injuries to some police personnel. Some students even made a vain attempt to attack Kamatipura police station.

The TJAC leaders lodged a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission over the arrest of Kodandaram and scores of students and youth leaders. They demanded that necessary action should be initiated against the alleged high-handed action of the police authorities.
