Urjit Patel has sacrificed RBI's autonomy : Congress

Congress party criticised that RBI governor Urjit Patel has sacrificed the central bank's autonomy in the demonetisation policy. The age old party alleged that RBI was purposefully kept in the dark by GOI in its surprise currency ban decision. In the Congress mouthpiece National Herald, its spokesperson Jairam Ramesh told “Urjit is either guilty of misleading the country about RBI's preparedness on currency ban or has sacrificed the autonomy of the central bank, either way he should step down”. He questioned the Urjit Patel's stoic silence and said “How can the head of the central bank, which is solely responsible for the present currency crisis not been seen assuring and clarifying the country amid this severe crisis?”
