Rs 64,250 cr@Jan Dhan accounts
NEW DELHI: By Novermber 16, 2016 total deposits in PM Jan Dhan accounts have raised to Rs 64,252.15 crore. Uttar Pradesh leading the tally with Rs 10,670 cr deposits followed by West Bengal and Rajasthan. Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar, in a written reply to Lok Sabha said "As on November 16,2016 25.58 crore accounts with an aggregate deposits of Rs 64,252.15 cr have been opened under PMJDY (PM Jan Dhan Yojana) across the country," As of November 16, UP has the highest number of PMJDY account holders to the tune of 3.79 cr and hence highest deposits of Rs 10,670 cr. Followed by West Bengal with 2.44 cr Jand Dhan accounts and Rs 7,826 cr deposits. Rajasthan took the third berth with 1.89cr accounts and Rs.5,345 cr deposits. Though Bihar has 2.62cr accounts, deposits stand at Rs.4,912 cr only. Santosh Kumar Gangwar said " Banks have been informed to ensure linkage of all Jan Dhan Yojana accounts with Aadhaar details in a time-bound task. Jan Dhan envisages channelising all the government benefits to the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)". According to the Minister as on November 11 the total currency in circulation is Rs 17.87 lakh crore.
