Center says NO to delimitation in Telugu states
Disappointing the ruling parties of both Telugu states, GOI said that there would be no delimitation of assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till 2026. According to the AP State Reorganisation Act-2014, Assembly constituencies of AP and Telangana can be increased from 175 and 119 to 225 and 153 respectively. Section 26(1) of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 provides necessary room for the enhancement. But today in his reply to TDP MP T.G.Venkatesh's question, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Ahir made it clear that delimitation is not possible till 2026. ECI already raised its objections on this issue and Attorney General also opined that delimitation is not possible till 2026 due to constitutional obligations.
