Taiwan missile kills Taiwanese boatman off China
Taiwan, claimed as its own by mighty People's Republic of China, mistakenly fired a Hsiung Feng missile on Friday, killing one person in the Penghu islands belonging to the mainland. Curiously, the Taiwanese missile with a range of 300 km hit a Taiwanese boat captain who was repairing his boat off the Penghu islands. Already China, accused of being expansionist by all its neighbours, is furious about the missile hitting its territory. China considers Taiwan as its own breakaway province, which it wants to usurp at some point. It had set its sights on Hong Kong and secured the island from Britain. Now the missile incident will be deemed a provocation by restive Beijing. Even so, the Taiwanese missile hitting a Taiwanese boatman in the waters off the PRC raises questions. Considered in ballistic terms, whether it was pinpoint hit. The missile fired when a patrol boat was undergoing a drill inspection, say the Taiwanese authorities.
