Bangalore garment workers go on the rampage on PF rules change
Garments workers in Bangalore on Tuesday stormed the metropolis in support of their demand for restoration of old Provident Fund rules so as to let them make withdrawals and get the full benefit. The garment workers participated in the agitation along with their families because the issue concerns the family more than the employees. Garment factories in Bangalore and surrounding areas attract workers from as far away as Anantpur who go to work on a daily basis. The police made a lathicharge on the garment workers who retaliated and beat up the police wherever they could find them. The workers then went on the rampage, destroying vehicles in their way. The Police Commissioner of Bangalore is also said to have been hurt in the incidents. More police forces have been rushed to Bangalore. A fall out of the Bangalore garments workers' agitation was the immediate restoration of the old PF withdrawal rules by the Union Labour Ministry which announced that the old rules would continue till July 31.
