Nirmala assures solution to Kolleru farmers

Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Friday assured the Kolleru lake farmers that she would take their issue to the focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among the problems relating to Kolleru is the demand of the fishermen and displaced farmers for compensation following the declaration of the lake as a wildlife sanctuary. Kolleru, large fresh water lake, is colourful with migratory birds of various hues regualrly visiting the area. Sitaraman, who toured West Godavari, talked to the Kolleru farmers. She noted that the problem had been simmering for decades. She would brief the Prime Minister about the problems relating to the lake in order to find a solution. She inquired with the farmers about their problems. The farmers told her that contour 3 should be fixed. The sancturay has been extended from Contour 3 to Contour 5. Nirmala Sitaraman was accompanied during the visit by Minister Kamineni Srinivas, Gokaraju Gangaraju, MP, and former Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao.
