Modi says quotas inalienable right of the weak

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday refuted the rumours by interested parties that the reservations would be scrapped by the BJP-led NDA government. He reiterated that the quotas for the Dalits, tribals and marginalizd sections were their inalienable right. The Prime Minister said similar rumours were also floated during the AB Vajpayee government. But no scrapping of reservations had taken place during both the Vajpayee governments. `Still lies are being spread by opponents to mislead the people. This is a right that nobody could snatch from them,' he added. Modi was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art memorial building for BR Ambedkar in New Delhi. He said to describe Ambedkar as a messiah only of the Dalits was great injustice to the founding father of the Indian Constitution. Ambedkar had raised his voice against any and all injustice, he added. He described Ambedkar as `Vaishwanara' (god from whom the objective world starts into existenvce). Modi noted that Ambedkar had made great efforts for the empowerment of women. Few people know that Ambedkar had resigned on the issue of women's empowerment, seeking equal rights for women. The Ambedkar memorial would be completed by April 14, 2018, Modi said and added he would inaugurate the building.
