Is it there on statute that one should wear sherwani, asks Javed Akhtar
Urdu writer Javed Akhtar told the Rajya Sahba in his concluding speech that democracy, securalism and youth power are beneficial for the country. These ideals should not be destroyed. Obliquely referring to MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Javed Akhtar pointed out that one leader who prided himself as a national leader, but he is only a sectional leader in Hyderabad. This Hyderabd leader had averred that he would not raise `Bharat Mata ki Jai slogan' because it was not part of the Constitution. Javed Akhtar asked, `Is it there in the Constitution that one should wear sherwani and put on a fez cap? I am totally opposed to this leader's view,' he added. Several times in his speech Javed Akhtar raised `Bharatmata ki Jai' slogan. `It's my right,' he added. A nominated MP, Javed Akhtar's term ends shortly in the Upper House. His speech was received by thumping of the desks several times in the House.
