GHMC poll is not thigh-beating arena: TRS MP

K. Kavita, TRS MP, has said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections is not an arena for challenges and counter-challenges. "This is not a Balakrishna film to beat the thigh and challenge the opponents," she added. Taking part in a meet-the-press programme on Wednesday, Kavita said a party had to put out what it was going to do for the people in Hyderabad than beat the thigh and challenge your political opponents. People may have short memories but press does not suffer from it. It was indeed the ruling TRS that had started the culture of challenges in the GHMC poll. Her brother, K. Taraka Ramarao, had challenged Yerrabelli Dayakar Rao and Revant Reddy (TDP) and the BJP initially. Subsequently, good sense prevailed and development agenda was adopted by all parties, including the KTR. Hyderabad is a dicey pitch for political parties. Except for the AIMIM, no single party can claim a majority on paper. Only poll pacts before or after the polls can put matters in perspective. Kavita meanwhile said her party would be happy with what it was going to do for the people of Hyderabad. However, the parties such as the MIM and the BJP were talking about beef. Both the parties were accusing each other of fundamentalism. Her party's agenda was development, she added.
