Police arrest ex-MLA Nani for protesting over land acquisition
Hyderabad, Nov 16: Machilipatnam police today arrested former MLA Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) from his residence for leading protests in the recent past over protests against land acquisition for the proposed Machilipatnam port and port-based industries. Two cases were registered against Nani for leading protests at Hussianpalem on September 2 and also at Potlapalem a few days ago. Nani is a senior YSRC party leader. Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Surya Sravan Kumar said, “We have arrested him for his involvement in the protests at Hussianpalem and Potlapalem. Two cases have been registered against him at the Machilipatnam rural police station.” Meanwhile, Chilakalapudi police too registered a case against Nani and nine others for their attempt to obstruct the Excise task force in conducting raids on a local bar recently. Cases against Nani were registered under the IPC section 353 and 201 in the excise case.
