AP Minister receives death threat from Maoists
Hyderabad, Nov 08: Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Minister CH Ayyanna Patrudu received a death threat from Maoists yesterday.
The Maoists reportedly warned Ayyanna Patrudu to prevail upon the state government to withdraw the permission for bauxite mining in Narsipatnam and others areas in the Agency area.
They demanded the Minister to resign from Cabinet. Ayyanna Patrudu is representing Narsipatnam Assembly seat in Visakhapatnam district.
Ayyanna Patrudu met Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao and informed him about the mounting pressure from locals to stop bauxite mining. He called Chief Minister N Chadrababu Naidu over phone and informed about the threat.
Few days ago, AP government issued permission for mining bauxite in Narsipatnam and other agency areas in the district. Tribals were strongly opposing bauxite mining and even bandh was enforced in the region yesterday in protest against bauxite mining.
The Minister announced that government would not go against the sentiments of the local people.
