AP plans to scrap zonal system

Hyderabad, Aug 17: Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramkrishnudu has said that the state government is contemplating to scrap zonal system in the recruitment of government employees. Six zones were created in united AP following the Presidential Order as per the Article 371D of Indian constitution to provide equitable job opportunities to people belonging to all regions in the state. As per the system, 80 per cent district-level posts, 70 per cent zonal-level posts and 60 per cent multi-zonal cadre posts should be filled by the candidates belonging to a particular region. Yanamala said that government should bring a new act to enable equal opportunities to all in jobs in capital region if government decides to follow the existing zonal system. We would request the Centre to abolish Article 371D and government would not bother on expenditure to be incurred for shifting capital city, Yanamala said.
