Computer Science most sought-after course at IITs

Hyderabad, July 9: Computer Science Engineering is the most sought-after course among the IITs. In all 25,000 students exercised their options for 10,006 IIT seats during the first phase of seat allocation. Among all other branches, Computer Science Engineering received more applications. In all 2.7 lakh candidates applied for the 990 seats in CSE in 19 IITs across the country at an average of 209 applications for each seat. Electrical, Mechanical and Civil engineering are second, third and fourth preferences respectively. IIT Kharagpur has received highest number of applications. It has 1,341 seats and it received 2,49,392 applications. But 60 out of top 100 rankers opted for IIT Mumbai. According to experts candidates are opting for CSE for the past ten years.
