Kapil Dev meets MP CM Mohan Yadav, offers support for development of cricket talent
Bhopal, May 11 : Former India captain and 1983 World Cup-winning all-rounder Kapil Dev paid a courtesy visit to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at his residence in Bhopal on Monday evening.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav apprised Kapil Dev of the sports landscape in Madhya Pradesh and the steps being taken by the state government to promote various sports, including cricket.
“Madhya Pradesh is working to create a strong ecosystem for all sports. We are developing infrastructure, training facilities and support systems for athletes across disciplines,” Chief Minister Yadav said.
The Chief Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that players from the state get national and international exposure.
“Our focus is on building sports as a career option for the youth. Along with cricket, we are giving equal importance to hockey, athletics, wrestling and other Olympic sports,” he said.
Kapil Dev appreciated the efforts being made in the state to promote sports.
The legendary cricketer said that commendable work is being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh to promote all sports, including cricket.
According to a government statement, the former India captain expressed his willingness to extend every possible support towards the development of sports and athletes in the state.
He said he remains ready to offer guidance to nurture cricketing talent in Madhya Pradesh.
Kapil Dev emphasised that, alongside cricket, the development of other sports is equally essential for a balanced sporting culture.
“Every sport needs attention and support. If we focus only on one sport, we will miss out on talent in other fields,” he said.
The visit comes at a time when Madhya Pradesh has been increasing its focus on sports infrastructure, with new stadiums, academies and rural sports programmes being developed across districts.
The state has also announced incentives for medal-winning athletes and coaches.
Chief Minister Yadav thanked Kapil Dev for his visit and for showing interest in the state’s sports development efforts.
He said the government will work with experienced sportspersons to build a roadmap for the future.
