Anna Canteens scheme put in cold storage?
Hyderabad, June 5 ,2015: Uncertainty looms large over implementation of the Anna Canteen scheme which is aimed at providing food to the poor at highly subsidised prices. Though Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Civil Supplies Minister Partila Sunitha announced that the scheme would be implemented at 35 centres in Anantapur, Chittoor, Visakahpatnam and Guntur districts from last October , there has been no progress so far. The government planned to provide sambar rice at Rs 5, Idly for Re 1 and curd rice for Rs 3 to the poor under the scheme. Minister P Sunitha, P Pulla Rao and Narayana visited Tamil Nadu twice to study the implementation of the scheme. According to sources, the Ministers were apprehensive about the response it would receive in the State. The scheme is planned on the lines of 'Amma Canteens' scheme which is a big hit in Tamil Nadu. The poor are eagerly waiting for the implementation of the scheme.
