TS to build houses for the poor on unutilised lands of colleges, varsities
Hyderabad, April 30, 2015: In a major decision, the Telangana Government has decided to take back the unutilised lands given to colleges, clubs, universities and even Government offices and make use of them for building houses for the poor. At a review meeting at Secretariat on the proposal to build houses for the poor, Chief Minister KCR has instructed officials to find out such unutilised lands and acquire them so that construction of houses for the poor can begin. Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, KCR said:"Government has given away lands to several educational institutions, clubs, entertainment companies, universities and Government offices. There are several unutilised ones among those lands. When we can give away our lands to these organisations, why can't we build 2-bed room houses for the poor on these unutilised lands?" The Chief Minister also stunned the officials at the review meeting by dismissing rumours that the Government would build houses for the poor on the outskirts of the city. "No. Government would build these houses in the city only and if possible even at Banjara Hills and other such locations too," he said, adding officials must take steps to ensure that land grabbers and ineligible people would not be benefited by the housing scheme.
