Airspace Over Andaman and Nicobar Islands Closed... NOTAM Issued!
The Indian Ministry of Defence has scheduled high-altitude weapon tests over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, prompting the temporary closure of airspace in the region. Officials announced that the airspace will be closed during specified hours on May 23 (Friday) and May 24 (Saturday), and a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been formally issued to all aviation operators.
According to the issued NOTAM, the Indian defence establishment is set to conduct strategic high-altitude missile tests over the islands. As a result, from 7:00 AM for a duration of three hours on both days, civilian flights will not be permitted to enter the designated airspace. Authorities emphasized that these restrictions are essential for ensuring the safety of the public and the successful execution of the defence tests.
Officials recalled that similar missile trials had been conducted successfully in this region in the past. These tests are understood to be part of India’s ongoing efforts to accelerate indigenous arms development and strengthen national defence capabilities.
The temporary airspace restrictions are a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding both passengers and test operations. Airline operators have been advised to modify their flight schedules or reroute services in accordance with the NOTAM guidelines.
