Flights to Several Cities Cancelled by IndiGo and Air India Due to Security Reasons

India’s leading domestic airlines, IndiGo and Air India, have made an unexpected decision to cancel flights to several key cities on Tuesday, citing security concerns along the country’s borders. Flights scheduled to and from cities such as Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, and Chandigarh are among those affected. Both carriers clarified that the move was taken prioritizing passenger safety above all else.

Air India announced the suspension of services to Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. “In view of recent developments and with your safety in mind, we have cancelled flights to these cities on Tuesday, May 13. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates,” Air India stated in a message shared on the social media platform X.

Similarly, IndiGo declared the suspension of its flights to Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot. “Due to recent developments and as passenger safety is our top priority, we have taken this decision,” IndiGo stated. The airline added, “We understand this may disrupt your travel plans and sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. Our teams are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed with further updates.”

Notably, several airports that had been previously closed amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan were reopened for civil aviation operations on Monday. The Airports Authority of India announced the resumption of operations at a total of 32 airports. The cancellation of services to key airports such as Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, and Chandigarh the very next day, due to security reasons, is particularly noteworthy.
