Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Skips Miss World Opening Ceremony — Here’s Why
The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan have now cast a shadow over the 72nd Miss World pageant scheduled to begin today in Hyderabad. The inaugural event, set to take place at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, will proceed without the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. According to sources from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Revanth Reddy has opted to skip the opening ceremony due to the prevailing sensitive situation.
In addition, the state government has also cancelled the official dinner party that was planned for guests attending the event on behalf of the Telangana government. This decision, as per CMO sources, was taken in light of the current heightened tensions in the region.
The pageant is expected to bring international recognition not only to India but specifically to the state of Telangana. However, opposition parties have raised concerns over whether the event should be cancelled or postponed in the context of the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions. They are questioning the appropriateness of holding such a large-scale international event at this time.
Air travel disruptions — including changes and cancellations in flight services — are also anticipated to impact the smooth conduct of the event.
Given the current circumstances, providing comprehensive security for contestants arriving from 120 countries, along with sponsors and members of the international media, is emerging as a significant challenge. There is no doubt that ensuring the safety of all attendees, especially in strategic areas of Hyderabad as well as for the general public, will be a top priority. Concerns have also been raised regarding the heavy burden this places on the police force, which is tasked with maintaining security for such a large influx of international guests over the next three weeks.
