Amaravati's Revival Begins with Artistic Tribute in Iron
The construction works of Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, are set to officially resume shortly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to ceremonially relaunch the Amaravati development project. All arrangements for the inauguration ceremony of Amaravati’s reconstruction have been completed. As part of the celebrations, sculptures made from iron scrap have emerged as a special attraction at the venue.
These art installations, located in the main assembly area, have garnered significant attention from the attendees of the event, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The sculptures were crafted by renowned scrap artist Katuri Venkateswara Rao from Tenali and his team.
Using old nuts, bolts, and iron pieces discarded in mechanic sheds and other locations, the team skillfully transformed the scrap material into striking artworks. Among the sculptures is a figure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with a statue of the late Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (N.T.R), and a model of the cycle symbol representing the Telugu Desam Party. Additionally, a sculpture of Buddha symbolizing Amaravati, a Dharma Chakra behind it, and the lion emblem representing the Make in India initiative have also been artistically assembled from scrap.
The words “Amaravati Re-Construction 2-5-2025” have been creatively formed using old iron materials. Furthermore, portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have been crafted in stainless steel and put on display.
Artist Venkateswara Rao stated, “Upon learning that the Prime Minister would be attending the Amaravati reconstruction event, we wanted to present a unique art installation that reflects the aspirations of the local people. We are well-known for our scrap iron sculptures, which is why we chose this medium.” He mentioned that scrap materials were sourced from cities such as Guntur, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai.
Large crowds, including local farmers, have gathered to view the sculptures installed near the assembly venue. Venkateswara Rao noted that many were deeply impressed by the artworks and added that they plan to propose to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to permanently install these sculptures at key junctions within Amaravati.
