Introduction
Eesha is a Telugu horror thriller produced by Bunny Vaas and Vamsi Nandipati, who have earned a reputation for promoting small films in their own distinctive style and taking them closer to audiences. After Little Hearts and Raju Weds Rambai, the duo now presents Eesha, directed as a straightforward horror attempt. The film stars Trigun, Hebba Patel, Akhil Raj, and Siri Hanumanthu in lead roles. The movie explores the age-old debate around ghosts and spirits, blending fear with suspense.
Plot Summary
Four friends—Kalyan (Trigun), Vinay (Akhil Raj), Nayana (Hebba Patel), and Aparna (Siri Hanumanthu)—do not believe in ghosts or spirits and consider them mere superstitions. They aim to expose fake godmen and swamis who exploit people in the name of blind beliefs. During this mission, they come across Dev (Prithviraj), a man who has given up his medical practice and instead claims to solve problems of people possessed by spirits, near the Andhra–Odisha border. When the friends decide to expose Dev, he challenges them by claiming he can prove the existence of spirits. As part of this challenge, the four friends agree to stay for three days in an abandoned building. What happens during those three days, the problems they face, whether spirits truly exist there, the reason a tribal man (Mime Madhu) seeks revenge on them, who Punyavathi is, and whose body she possesses—all these answers form the rest of the story.
Analysis
The film is based on the long-standing argument of whether ghosts and spirits exist or not. With this premise, the director crafts a simple horror story that primarily focuses on scaring the audience. The screenplay follows a familiar horror formula possession, frightening scenes, characters entering an abandoned building, and a cinematic climax. However, once the four friends enter the old building, almost every scene manages to build tension, creating a constant sense of fear about what might happen next. A major strength of the film is the background score, which significantly enhances the impact of the horror. Even scenes that lack strong writing feel intense due to the effective BGM.
With a runtime of around two hours, the film feels crisp and does not drag. The first half is decent, while the second half, especially the climax portions, is more engaging. The twist in the climax provides a good thrill. That said, the Punyavathi episode could have been explored in more detail. Due to the limited runtime, some character transformations are not properly explained, which slightly weakens the narrative. The makers also hint at a possible second part through a dialogue delivered by Hebba Patel in the climax.
Performances
Trigun, Hebba Patel, Akhil Raj, and Siri Hanumanthu perform within the scope of their roles. However, the lack of strong individual scenes does not give them much opportunity to leave a strong mark as actors. Mime Madhu stands out among the cast with his performance. His appearance is genuinely frightening, and his acting is likely to earn him recognition. The director seems more focused on scaring the audience than offering novelty. With stronger scenes and dialogues, the film could have reached a higher level.
Technical Aspects
Santosh’s dark visuals work well for a horror film and help create fear. The background score is a major highlight and acts as an added attraction. Production values are adequate and suit the scale of the film.
Final Verdict
Eesha Movie Review: For audiences who enjoy horror thrillers, Eesha offers a few scary moments and delivers a decent thrill in the climax. However, viewers accustomed to Hollywood-level horror films may feel that Eesha does not fully meet their expectations and may leave them wanting more.
