Tollywood legendary director Kalatapasvi K Viswanath passes away

The legendary Tollywood film director K Viswanath, known for directing the Telugu classic "Sankarabharanam," passed away Thursday night at the age of 92 due to age-related illness. He was being treated at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad. Viswanath, who had been unwell for some time, is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Viswanath was born on February 19, 1930, in Pedapulivarru, Guntur district, and made his directorial debut in 1965 with "Aatma Gowravam." Over the course of his career, he directed more than 50 films and acted in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films.

Known as "Kalatapasvi," Viswanath received numerous awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016, the Padma Shri in 1992, and 10 Filmfare Awards. He also won five National Awards and five Nandi Awards. His last film was "Shubapradam" in 2010.
