In the 1980s, Salman Rushdie received death threats from Iran because of his writing. On Friday, August 12, as he prepared to deliver a lecture in western New York, he was attacked. Witnesses claim that as Rushdie was being introduced at the Chautauqua Institution, a man stormed the stage and started hitting or stabbing Rushdie. After receiving injuries, the author was rushed directly to the hospital by air ambulance while the man was restrained. Rushdie's condition wasn't known right away. A young man who attacked the victim has been detained. The man's identity has not yet been made public, and all are eagerly awaiting the author's most recent report.
