Rishi Sunak learned that he and Liz Truss were in the top two candidates for the Tory leadership at this very moment. After the election's outcome was announced, he praised his fellow members for their efforts in making this happen.

After getting the fewest votes in the last MPs' poll, Penny Mordaunt was eliminated from the race for the Tory leadership, advancing Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss to the decisive round.

105 people supported the international trade minister, compared to 113 for Ms. Truss and 137 for Mr. Sunak.

Over the course of the following six weeks, as Mr. Sunak and Ms. Truss campaign across the nation, almost 200,000 Tory members will cast ballots.
