U.S. Steps Up Deportations: Flight with Indian Migrants Heads to India
In line with this initiative, a military transport aircraft, reportedly a C-17, has been deployed to transport Indian migrants back to their home country.
During Trump's presidency, U.S. authorities initially arrested 538 individuals and deported them to their respective countries. Furthermore, preparations were made to deport nearly 5,000 undocumented migrants residing in areas such as El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California. The U.S. government is estimated to spend approximately $4,675 per person on deportation procedures.
Reports indicate that around 725,000 Indians are residing in the U.S. without proper documentation. Among them, a list has been prepared to deport approximately 18,000 individuals back to India. The Indian government has also responded to the issue, reaffirming its stance against illegal migration. It has stated that Indian nationals living in any country, including the U.S., without valid documents or overstaying their visas will be repatriated.
After Mexico and El Salvador, Indians reportedly constitute the third-largest group of undocumented migrants in the United States.
