The Congress government in Telangana, focusing on implementing the six guarantees promised during the elections, is ready to roll out another key assurance. The ‘Gruhajyothi’ initiative, aimed at providing up to 200 units of free electricity to households, and the guarantee of gas cylinders for Rs. 500, are set to be launched on either the 27th or 29th of this month. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued orders to officials in this regard during a cabinet subcommittee meeting held on Thursday. CM Revanth Reddy has instructed immediate readiness for the implementation of these two schemes and has ordered that 'zero' electricity bills should be issued from the first week of March.

The Chief Minister mentioned that gas cylinders should be provided at Rs. 500 to all eligible beneficiaries who apply under public governance. He inquired about the feasibility of transferring the subsidy directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts and suggested that officials should follow a pro-people approach and, if necessary, coordinate with gas agencies. CM Revanth Reddy has clarified that the ‘Gruhajyothi’ scheme should be applicable to all those with white ration cards consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month.

He has also ordered that opportunities be provided to correct any mistakes in applications regarding ration cards or other details, with corrected applicants being eligible for free electricity from the following month. He suggested promoting this information through flex banners in every village.

The key cabinet subcommittee meeting, held at the Secretariat on Thursday, was attended by CM Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, CM's advisor Ven Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary Shantikumari, Special Chief Secretary for Finance Ramakrishna Rao, Commissioner of Civil Supplies Department DS Chauhan, CMDs of Transco-Genco Rizvi, and Chief Secretary to CM Sheshadri.
